This 10 storey residential tower block in Bromley had been built in the 1970s and had become outdated and difficult to let. The client and the Local Authority developed a reinvestment strategy. RLP proposed refurbishment options within a very tight budget, and the 72 bed-sits and 1 bed flats were redesigned to 48 one and two bed flats, with enhanced space standards. The old ribbon window system was replaced with highly insulated panels incorporating a sophisticated glazing system designed to minimise solar heat gain with maximum thermal efficiency. The project was carried out in phases with some residents in occupation throughout, requiring a significant degree of tenant liaison throughout the design and build processes.
