The site, currently under the ownership of St Albans City & District Council, has been offered to NHH, to provide 100% affordable housing to replace the existing mobile homes. The scheme presented a number of challenges, being required to epitomise both modern design and integrate with the local traditional architecture.
The scheme offers 30 units of mixed tenure and a manager’s office. 23 units have been designated as temporary accommodation and designed in a way, that two flats, without any alteration, can become one, to accommodate the occupancy requirements of any family.
The other 7 units, comprising 4 houses (shared ownership) and 3 houses (general needs).
10% of the energy generated from this development will come from renewable sources. Under the Code for Sustainable Homes, the development will meet at least the minimum requirement of Code Level 3. Each dwelling has also been designed to Lifetime Homes Standards. Value of the works is approximately £3.1m
