Works are due to start in October 2017 for the construction of three new postgraduate houses. The new housing is part of an overall masterplan to consolidate a graduate ‘campus within a campus’ for the College.
The scheme is based on a 2 stage tender process, in which, in this instance the input from the Main Contractor and his sub-contractors has proved to be invaluable in the overall design of some of the more complicated aspects of the building.
The Architects have embraced the local area including the Arts and Crafts character of Storey’s Way and continued the theme with handmade hanging tiles on the elevation along with timber boarding, pre-cast concrete panels with a copper roof with decorative copper flashings.
The college accommodation is split between three new houses, including 30 en-suite student rooms, 6 communal kitchens, 5 self-contained flats and associated support spaces.
Photo-voltaics are being installed on the roof and the installation of air source heat pumps will form part of the M&E installations.
A landscaping scheme has also been developed with the College’s gardener.
